Did you know there are regulations for wildlife such as bats, raccoons, snakes, and even squirrels? Many people don’t realize that special permits are often required to handle wildlife, and it’s illegal to move or take an animal in most areas without a depredation permit issued by a Wildlife Control Agent.
What is a depredation permit? Depredation refers to animals causing damage or destruction, typically to crops, livestock, property, or natural resources. It often involves predatory or nuisance behavior, such as wildlife preying on domestic animals or destroying agricultural fields and damming up waterways. A state-issued permit allows the Wildlife Control Agent to remove the animals and either relocate them safely or dispatch them outside of the legal season.
“If you come across a bird’s nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life.”
– Deuteronomy 22:6-7 (NIV)
